The Horrific Death and Humanistic Genius of My Friend Madalyn Murray O’Hair

note to joe

Friday, April 20, at 7:30 PM

Madalyn Murray O’Hair, as the attorney on the Supreme Court case that banned Bible reading in public schools, was a vital player in American humanism.  A courageous writer and outspoken public speaker for decades, she continued to challenge organized religion and its uniquely privileged status in the legal system and tax law.

As a result, Madalyn was explicitly called the most hated woman in America. She was continually targeted with death threats, yet she, her son and her granddaughter persisted in their work until their disappearance and brutal murder.

At this meeting, Humanist Counselor Rev. Joseph-Ben David will present another view of Madalyn’s life and death. His insight is based on his long friendship with her, his regard for her as perhaps the most loving woman in America, and his insight into her enemies’ concern to prevent her from becoming a hero and a saint.

Held at: The Universalist Society
